GPT-5.5 retires: check the model saved in your AI schedule

Review saved tasks after the 14 October model retirement, then verify one complete run before relying on the next scheduled result.

Why check today

OpenAI scheduled GPT-5.5's retirement from ChatGPT, Work and Codex for 14 October 2026; the API is unaffected. Check each saved task's model and choose an option available in that account. Keep the old instructions before changing settings. A successful replacement test should produce the same required output, not merely start a conversation.

“Do this every morning” specifies a rhythm but leaves the result unclear. A useful scheduled task describes the input, output and evidence of completion. First run the same instructions once as an ordinary task.

Define one complete run

For a fictional daily reading brief, require three source links, their dates and a saved summary. State the timezone and what should happen if yesterday's run was missed. Repeating an unfinished task is different from adding several days of work at once.

OpenAI documents different environments for scheduled tasks. Local desktop work needs the computer and app available; web tasks do not have direct access to a folder on your computer. Choose the environment that can reach the actual materials.

Test the dependencies

Check the source account, files, tools and model. Saved choices can become outdated: the documented GPT-5.5 retirement in affected products is one example of why recurring work needs configuration review. Do not assume that the model in the current chat is also the one saved in every schedule.

Verify the output after the run

Open the saved summary and follow a source link. Record success, partial work or the exact failure. A notification is not proof that the underlying job finished. Make repeated runs recognise already completed work, and revise the schedule when it consistently produces incomplete or irrelevant output.
