Claude opened a directory submission portal on 25 September 2026. That is an earlier announcement, not news from this week; it remains useful when choosing an extension because submissions can contain MCP connectors, Agent Skills, or both. The portal is for developers on paid plans, not evidence that every listed capability is included in every reader’s account.
A plugin may contain a skill and a connection to a service, but those components do different jobs. You may need a reusable procedure without any external connection, or a tool connection without a new writing template.
Identify the missing capability
A skill describes the method: how to turn notes into a structured briefing. A plugin is an installable package that can bundle skills and other capabilities. MCP is a protocol through which a client can use external tools and data. These are complementary layers, not interchangeable names.
For a fictional briefing from local notes, instructions and a template may be enough. For a briefing using a current calendar, the assistant needs an authorised way to retrieve calendar data as well.
Check what the connection permits
Read the tool list and requested account access. A connection that can read appointments may also offer actions to change them; inspect the actual permissions. Installing the workflow does not prove that the account connection is complete.
Test only the needed route
Use a small permitted example and ask for the output without sending or modifying anything. If it fails, identify whether the procedure, tool or account link is missing. Adding several unrelated plugins at once makes that diagnosis harder. Keep the smallest set that completes the task, and record which part provides each capability.
