Google announced Docs Live for eligible Google Docs mobile users on October 21, 2026: spoken instructions can produce a structured first draft. If that draft later becomes a Word file, check its real heading styles after export. A structured-looking draft does not establish the structure of the final DOCX. Docs Live availability depends on the eligible plan and enabled Gemini access; this check also applies to documents generated with other AI tools.
A generated Word document can look organized while having no usable heading structure. Large bold paragraphs are not automatically Heading 1 or Heading 2. Ask the assistant to apply real paragraph styles in the DOCX, not merely imitate their appearance.
Specify the hierarchy
For a short equipment guide, use Heading 1 for “Setup” and “Checks,” then Heading 2 for the steps within each section. Keep body text in the appropriate body style. Describe the structure separately from font size and color.
Open the actual export
In Word, select a heading and inspect its style. Use the navigation outline where available to confirm that sections appear at the correct levels. Create or update a table of contents if needed: missing entries can reveal paragraphs that only look like headings.
Reopen the saved DOCX and check the structure again, especially after another editor or conversion step. This verifies the generated artifact, not just the chat’s claim that styles were applied. Repair the style assignments before polishing the visual formatting.
