The ChatGPT update for 12–16 October 2026 adds iOS widget and Shortcuts entry points for your dot, including a Dictation mode. The rollout requires iOS app version 1.2026.279 and dot access. For a dictated draft, the useful next step is a careful edit, not a generic request to sound more impressive.
Start a short dictated draft
In Apple Shortcuts, create a shortcut with ChatGPT’s Open your dot action. Select your dot and choose Dictation mode. Run the saved shortcut and dictate one paragraph. This is speech-to-text input; Call mode starts a live conversation instead. Read the transcription first, especially names, numbers and dates, before asking for an edit.
A paragraph can become smoother and still stop sounding like its author. Instead of asking AI to “make it professional”, describe the reader and the specific problem. Perhaps the opening takes too long, or the request is buried in the last sentence.
Give a useful sample
Provide a short piece of your own writing that you are allowed to share. Point out what to keep: short sentences, familiar words or a warm but direct tone. Ask for one revised paragraph first, not a wholesale rewrite of the document.
For a fictional club notice, specify that the meeting time and invitation stay unchanged. Ask the assistant to remove repetition without adding promises, enthusiasm or claims that were not in the draft.
Compare meaning before style
Read both versions side by side. Did “please reply by Friday” become “we look forward to hearing from everyone”? The second may sound pleasant while losing the deadline. Restore the fact before deciding which wording you prefer.
Turn preference into a small rule
Keep two or three observations from the edit: say what happens first, avoid inflated adjectives and retain concrete dates. Reuse those instructions in later drafts or a writing skill. Keep the wording that sounds like you and compare the final draft with the original facts.
