Your laptop sits beside a mesh point and shows a strong signal. The call still breaks up. One link may be healthy while the mesh point’s connection back to the rest of the network is struggling.
Look at both parts of the journey
Traffic has to travel from the device to an access point and then onward. In a wireless mesh, the onward link may also use radio. Placing another point in a poorly connected room does not automatically create a good path from that room.
Some systems support Ethernet connections between their Wi-Fi units. Google’s documentation describes supported wiring arrangements for its products, including model-specific requirements. Other systems need their own compatibility check.
Verify the layout before connecting cables
Check which units have Ethernet ports, which role each port serves and whether the system supports the proposed wired arrangement. Follow the manufacturer’s diagram, especially when a switch is involved. Do not create extra parallel cable paths in the hope that more connections will improve things.
Compare one change at a time
Test the same task in the same room before and after a supported wired connection. Keep the client device and other conditions as similar as possible. A better result points to the former onward link as a contributor, not proof that every network problem is solved. The internet connection, client radio and remote service can still set their own limits.
