An email is missing from Gmail's inbox: look beyond the inbox

Search all mail locations and inspect the matching filter before asking someone to resend a message.

A receipt was visible yesterday and is now absent from the inbox. That does not establish that Gmail deleted it. Archived messages leave the inbox, and filters can route incoming mail differently from what you remember setting up.

Use the sender, a distinctive subject fragment or a date range. Include Spam and Trash when checking for a genuinely missing message; the usual search scope may not include them. Open the result and inspect its labels and location before changing any settings.

An archived receipt and a message moved to Trash need different responses. Moving one message back is also different from fixing a filter that will keep affecting future receipts.

Look for filters matching that sender or subject and check whether they skip the inbox or delete matching mail. Record the rule before editing it. If you discover an unfamiliar forwarding setting or other unexpected account change, investigate account access separately. Do not treat every missing message as a delivery failure or disable all your useful filters at once.
